Friday night I quickly (maybe too quickly) drove to Brianne's house so we could go catch our friend Mike and his band play. It was for some sort of benefit show, to help this girl raise money so she could go to New York and help with Hurricane Sandy victims.
I was seriously blown away by everyone that played. There was so much talent in front of this small group and it was incredible.
Mike's band was Black Bear and the Cheyenne Autumn band. They were great and had a bit of an Edward Sharpe vibe to them. Love it.
Derrick was incredible and probably one of his favorite out of everyone that played. His voice was unreal, but not in a pretty way. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone sing with that much emotion and control. I adored his lyrics.
Walter Cabal was great, and we talked to him for a while after the show. He was a really cool and friendly guy, and I liked his lyrics too.
JC Villafan was played some really fantastic soul-pop. This guy was super talented. I couldn't believe that I was watching him play guitar the way he was, while also singing the way he did. He told us about his life and some really difficult things that he's been through, and he was just an unbelievable guy.
Then yesterday, Brianne's sister Misel came over for her birthday. All she wanted to do was play games with her family and get frozen yogurt, which sounds like a great birthday to me. We played Scatergories and Pictionary and Sequence and Bubble Talk and we were laughing the whole time. My throat is sore from laughing so much. I'm so glad that Brianne is my best friend.
